In my book The Running Dream by Wendelin Van Daaren, the character that i would like to meet is Jessica because she trys to make the best out of the worst situations. When she lost her leg she could have stayed home all day long and just turned to something like homeschooling. That would allow her to stay in the hiding from peoples mean comments and looks. Her friend Fiona pushed her to do things, but if it weren't for Jessica finally seeing that everything would be okay, she wouldn't be going out and going back to school.She is braver then any other person i know. I think that if i were in her situation i wouldn't be able to function again and basically shut myself out of the world like she did when she first lost her leg and was in the hospital. Jessica makes the best of everything when she finally realizes life goes on, it just can't stop because her life isn't exactly the same as it was before the accident. To get to this point she didn't even have to go to therapy to get over her fear of walking again on a fake leg. She looked at it as she was one step closer to being able to run track once again. Running was her life, so when she was faced with the facts, she knew she had to do something to get back on her feet. When she found out the cost of a running leg was 20,000 thousand dollars she couldn't believe it. When at a team car wash to raise money for her running leg, her teammates pushed her to take off her pants and just have shorts on. At first this scared her because this meant showing her pike leg and it scared her. She finally got brave enough to take off the pants and show everyone her leg in order to raise money. It took alot of courage because she didnt like the way her pike leg looked. Also she has impacted people's lives greatly even though things are really hard for her. There is a girl named Rosa and she has a disease that makes her so that she has trouble speaking and things are exactly right. Once Jessica started to become friends wi her Rosa became more social, and more and more people started to eat lunch with her. They now saw that Rosa was normal beyond her disability just like Jessica. That makes me really want to meet her because she see's people for their personalities not what they are like on the outside and that is just amazing and awesome.
